About the dish:
I first tried beef tongue in Florida with my cousin at an authentic Mexican taco truck! This is probably the easiest and less “scared” way of trying beef tongue for the first time.
I am willing to try pretty much any food and I HATE wasting food. So when I ordered my first 1/4 cow and it came with beef tongue…I had to try it!
This meat tastes JUST LIKE a savory, tender roast. Think: the perfect chuck roast that has been slow cooking in your crockpot all day and it FALLS APART.
Also:
After its slow cooked, if you fry it up in a cast iron pan with some butter, it gets crispy!!
Where can I find beef tongue?
You should be able to get beef tongue from your local farmer or ethnic grocery stores.

Equipment:
Crockpot or slow cooker
Ingredients:
1 Beef tongue
Water or broth
Want to make your own bone broth? Recipe here!
3-4 Garlic cloves (optional)
1 Tbsp Salt
Steps:
Remove your beef tongue from the refrigerator and make sure it is full thawed
Rinse the beef tongue in cold water thoroughly
Place the tongue in your crockpot/slow cooker
Add water or broth until the tongue is covered
Add salt and 3-4 peeled whole garlic cloves
Turn the slow cooker on low and cook for 6-8 hours or until it is very tender
(This is a good thing to cook while you’re at work or busy all day because it wont really over-cook, you could even leave it in for 10 hours if you had to)
Remove the tongue from the slow cooker and place on a cutting board
Remove the outside skin and unwanted fat, leaving just the meat. The skin should peel off very easily
Cut the meat into desired pieces or shred it
You can now use the meat for whatever you’d like.
